Milan launched EUR 213 million tender to buy new trams

Milan tramAzienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM), the Public Transport Authority in Milan, Italy launched, on August 8, a tender to sign a six-year agreement for the purchase of up to 80 new 100% low floor light rail vehicles. The framework has an estimated value of EUR 213 million.

According to the Public Transport Authority in Milan, January 2018 is the deadline for submitting the bids.

According to the project, 50 bi-directional light rail vehicles will be introduced in commercial service on the urban tram network in Milan and the rest of 30 light rail vehicles will enter commercial service on the sub-urban rail network towards Limbiate and Desio counties, near Milan.

The new 1445 mm gauge light rail vehicles will be 23 or 26 meter long. They will be equipped with air conditioning and CCTV systems, as well as recuperative bracking systems. The new trams will also benefit from active and pasive safety systems.

Azienda Trasporti Milanesi manages and operates a 20 tram lines urban rail network and runs a 493 rolling stock fleet.
