Metro Line 3 extension to Piraeus to be opened in summer

“In June 2019, the metro extension to Piraeus will be put into commercial services. The Piraeus station will be a transport hub which will connect all transport modes, providing efficient connectivity in the area,” Yannis Mylopoulos, Attiko Metro Chairman of the Board of Directors said.
The Aghia Marina- Piraeus double-track metro extension of the Line 3 has a total length of 7.6 km served by 6 modern stations, offering direct connection between the port and airport. In March 2012, the contract for the implementation of the project was signed with the J&P – Avax, Ghella SPA and Alstom joint venture.
The Piraeus station will be a major transport hub, connecting the two metro lines (Line 1 and Line 3), the Port, the suburban railway network and the tramway network.
The value of the project is EUR 890 million.
The metro extension will serve approximately 132,000 passengers on a daily basis, while the distance between the Port and the International Airport will be covered by the metro in 45 minutes.
