Construction company BERERIX has completed all major works included in the project for the southern section of the new Riga Central Station, the adjacent public square and the passenger platforms.
The project forms part of Rail Baltica, with the completion of this stage marking another important milestone in the transformation of the Latvian capital’s main railway hub.
The FIDIC consultant responsible for supervising the works has issued a Certificate of Completion to BERERIX and the client, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas. The document confirms that the major works specified in the contract have been completed in accordance with the agreed requirements.
Facade and roof glazing works have been completed, together with the majority of decorative and functional elements. Construction and landscaping works on the passenger platforms have also been completed, along with paving and landscaping in the public square adjacent to the station.
With these works completed, the new Riga Central Station building has now acquired the architectural appearance and functionality envisaged in the project.
Major Rail Baltica works completed at Riga Central Station
The works for the station, fully financed through the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, resumed in April 2025. They cover the southern section of Riga Central Station and are intended to ensure that the building and associated infrastructure are functional and ready for their future role.
The project included the installation of the roof and facades, construction of platform canopies, finishing works and the development of passenger access infrastructure. External and internal utility networks and the building’s engineering systems were also installed.
Under the contract, the major works were scheduled to be completed by 31 August 2026. Minor landscaping and finishing works inside the building, on the platforms and in the adjacent public square will continue until the end of the year, ahead of the handover of the facility to the client, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas.
The new Riga Central Station is one of the key components of Rail Baltica, the major European railway project that will integrate the Baltic states into the European rail network.
