Madrid Metro gets EUR 200 million loan

The loan will be granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and covers the amount necessary for the modernisation and improvement of Spain’s capital metro network for 2017-2019.

EIB granted this loan for a period of 20 years with four years the grace period for the first reimbursement instalment. The loan will be available as soon as projects are launched. The investment will enable the reconstruction of the infrastructure according to different projects, such as the Accessibility Plan or the Modernisation Plan of stations for 2017-2021. The latter will improve transport safety and comfort for the 585 million annual users of Madrid Metro, 2.2 million every working day.

The different modernisation projects of Metro de Madrid for 2017-2019 require investments of around EUR 400 million, half of the amount coming from the loan granted by the European Investment Bank.
