Local assembly completed for the new KL Innovia train

driverless Innovia metro Bombardier Hartasuma Consortium (BHC) has completed the local assembly work on the first of the 27 additional driverless Innovia metro trains ordered for the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) line in Kuala Lumpur.

The four-car metro trains are being manufactured in the USD, at Plattsburgh plant with the final assembly and interior fit-out works being carried out in Malaysia, at the Westport facility owned by the consortium.

The new futuristic vehicles come with additional interior features including inter-car walkthrough to enhance passenger comfort and safety, as well as a modern seating arrangement that optimises capacity.  The trains provide comfortable and convenient transport for commuters on the Kelana Jaya LRT line while meeting the highest safety and environmental standards.

Equipped with the proven Mitrac propulsion technology, the driverless Innovia Metro trains are highly reliable with high operational flexibility and low energy consumption.

Prasarana Malaysia has lately ordered 27 four-car (108 cars) vehicles to further increase transport capacity and they are to be delivered from 2020 until 2022. The contract awarded in 2017 has a total value of EUR 359 million euro, of which Bombardier’s share is EUR 246 million euro.

They will enter transport services this year on the Kelana Jaya LRT, the first fully automated metro line in Klang Valley area. The 27 km light railway line runs from north to south between Kelana Jaya and Gombak. The line is daily used by 319 passengers and it is expected that the ridership will increase by 17-19% per year from 2021. The new ordered Innovia trains will provide the needed capacity to meet future transport demand.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd ordered 374 metro vehicles since 1998 making one of the largest Innovia fleets in the world.
