Lineas named preferred operator in Ghent

Lineas has been selected as the preferred Railway Undertaking (RU) for Area 1 (Ghent) following the North Sea Port Bundling Tender for 2026–2027.

The appointment ensures the continuation of Lineas’ Antwerp–Ghent shuttle service and last-mile operations in Ghent, reinforcing the company’s position as a trusted logistics partner for the port’s industrial base.

Strengthening rail connectivity in Belgium

By securing the contract, Lineas guarantees reliable long-haul services between Antwerp and Ghent, combined with local last-mile distribution in the Ghent area. This integrated approach supports efficient freight flows within Belgium’s critical logistics corridor and contributes to the port’s wider bundling strategy.

The decision reflects North Sea Port’s confidence in Lineas’ ability to provide dependable and sustainable rail solutions, strengthening the region’s supply chain resilience and advancing the shift from road to rail.

Customers stand to benefit from:

  • Reliability and continuity: assured shuttle and last-mile operations between Antwerp and Ghent.
  • Efficiency and flexibility: optimised connections that adapt to varying transport needs.
  • Sustainability: promotion of rail freight as a lower-carbon alternative to road transport.

“We are delighted with this recognition of our services,” said Luc Pirenne, Chief Commercial Officer at Lineas. “The extension of our cooperation with North Sea Port shows the confidence customers place in our operations and expertise, and underlines our mission to drive modal shift through reliable, efficient and sustainable rail solutions.”

Lineas will begin operations under the new agreement on 1 January 2026.
