Lineas and Railpool extend their partnership

Lineas, Europe’s largest private rail freight operator, and Railpool, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of locomotives and maintenance services, have extended their partnership for another six years. Under the new agreement, Lineas will continue to operate 33 electric locomotives from the Railpool fleet, thus ensuring the continuity of its operational capacity on European markets.

“The extension of the collaboration gives Lineas the opportunity to respond more effectively to rapid developments in the logistics sector, where customers demand increased levels of flexibility, reliability, and technological adaptability,” the two companies said.

Increased flexibility to meet transport demand

Transport and logistics at European level are undergoing a phase of accelerated transformation, influenced by cost pressures, demand for customized services, and the transition to sustainable solutions.

The contract extension allows Lineas to maintain its current fleet of electric locomotives, while including the option to access additional models or new types of locomotives under development in the future.

“Our mission is clear: we want to offer our customers the best rail solutions – reliable, competitive and efficient,” said Alban François, COO of Lineas. “Extending our partnership with Railpool gives us the flexibility we need to respond to market demands.”

Through its operational solutions, Lineas emphasizes that the environmental impact per ton-kilometer remains considerably lower than in road transport, which contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of logistics chains.

A partnership based on performance and high availability

Railpool is one of Europe’s leading players in locomotive leasing, known for its constant investment in fleet modernization and maintenance. The company focuses on reliability, energy efficiency, and operational availability, which are essential criteria for freight operators.

“We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Lineas,” said Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool. “The extension of the contract confirms the strong relationship of trust we have built up over recent years. Together, we are committed to providing modern, reliable, and sustainable rail solutions that strengthen the competitiveness of rail transport in Europe.”

Joint contribution to the goal of shifting from road to rail

Road transport remains responsible for a major proportion of CO₂ emissions in Europe.

In this context, increasing the share of rail transport is becoming a priority objective in sustainable mobility policies. The electric locomotives used by Lineas significantly reduce emissions per ton-kilometer compared to trucks.
