Lazio Region and Trenitalia sign new service contract

The President of the Lazio Region Nicola Zingaretti and Managing Director of Trenitalia, Orazio Iacono, signed a new fifteen-year service contract which provides for investments totalling EUR 1.38 billion between 2018 and 2032.
Trenitalia’s EUR 1.23 billion investment, together with regional resources of EUR 149 million, including EUR 76.6 million from the previous contract, will allow the total rejuvenation of the fleet that in 2023 will be 6 years old compared to the current 14 years, with maintenance in modern and efficient facilities.
Under the investment plan, EUR 907 million will be provided for the acquisition of new trains, a project co-financed by the Lazio Region with EUR 149 million, 65 new Rock trains will be put into service, offering a greater capacity, and 3 bimodal diesel trains and 4 fast regional trains will be deployed on the region’s railway network to provide passenger transport services.
In addition, EUR 110 million will cover the revamping of the existing TAF trains, EUR 106 million will be provided for the improvement of the efficiency of the equipment in the plants, EUR 249 million will be invested in cyclic maintenance and EUR 10 million will ensure the deployment of new technology and IT solutions.
As early as 2019, while awaiting the delivery of new trains, a greater supply, of 9,418 seats on weekdays, will be guaranteed at peak times and on some of the busiest lines, for example those from Frosinone, Cassino, Colleferro, and Fiumicino.
The arrival of new trains will allow progressively improving quality standards in main performance indicators such as punctuality, regularity, and composition, and will guarantee customers the most innovative on-board technologies, such as people counter, live video surveillance, and Wi-Fi.
