Laude Smart Intermodal is accelerating its expansion in Ukraine and Europe, developing rail connections, terminals and partnerships along East–West routes.
For the Polish operator, Ukraine represents a long-term investment that could be further strengthened in the coming months through the development of a terminal located along one of the region’s key railway lines. This would allow the company to further strengthen its position in the Turkish and Ukrainian markets, which are already served through its container operations.
“Alongside increasing our transport volumes in Poland and Ukraine, we are systematically expanding our network of connections to Italy and Germany. We are also developing partnerships with Polish rail carriers. Our strengths in discussions with other operators include our nearly 70% share of Ukraine’s rail intermodal transport market, the trust we have built over the years and our in-depth knowledge of the market,” said Pavel Kalasko, Vice President for Eastern Markets at Laude Smart Intermodal.
The Toruń-based company has been looking for some time for an attractive rail transport operator in Western Europe that it could acquire and integrate into its own group.
Expanding connections between East and West
For several months, Laude Smart Intermodal has been holding talks that would enable it to pursue its strategy of connecting Eastern and Western Europe via Ukraine more effectively.
“Just looking at the map is enough to see that, from a geopolitical and strategic perspective, countries such as Turkey, Romania and, of course, Poland are crucial to transport in this part of the world. We are an international carrier that wants to play an important role on these routes and within these connections,” added Pavel Kalasko.
In recent months, Laude Smart Intermodal has modernised its terminals in Zamość and Sosnowiec and invested in new locomotives and wagons. The company is also expanding its cooperation with terminals in Radomsko, Sławków and Duisburg, among others.
These terminals regularly dispatch the Polish operator’s trains and containers to customers across Europe. The company is continuing to negotiate further acquisitions and alliances, while also acquiring land needed to develop its planned network of connections.
