Laude Smart Intermodal expand into Lithuania

In cooperation with the Lithuanian operator LTG Cargo, Laude Smart Intermodal is expanding into Lithuania, offering European-gauge rail lines and transshipment capabilities via the intermodal terminal in Šeštokai.

Thanks to these key elements in rail transport, Laude Smart Intermodal can handle a wide range of freight flows, including to customers in southern Poland.

“Our containers will become increasingly visible on Lithuanian rail lines. This is an excellent example of cross-border cooperation, demonstrating that rail transport is—and should be—the backbone of the logistics system, where combining road and rail transport allows us to fully leverage the advantages of both modes of transport,” said Marcin Witczak, CEO of Laude Smart Intermodal.

It is worth noting that LTG Cargo also holds an operator’s license in Latvia and Estonia and, together with its Polish subsidiary, contributes to the development of the North–West rail corridor.

On the Lithuania–Poland route, Laude Smart Intermodal containers transport, among other things, bulk cargo. However, thanks to a wide range of available container solutions, virtually any type of cargo can be transported.

“Laude containers and the technological solutions behind them allow for the optimization of transport costs per unit of cargo weight, which is particularly important for heavy goods. Depending on the type, our containers can carry up to 30 tons of cargo in a single unit within an intermodal chain. Compared to standard road transport, this makes a significant difference, especially given the high diesel prices,” explained Marcin Witczak.

Laude Smart Intermodal will also expand into the Nordic countries

In the future, the company aims to offer its intermodal solutions for deliveries to and from the Nordic countries, utilizing maritime transport on the Baltic Sea.

“We have experience managing such shipments via the Black Sea to Turkey, so the Baltic Sea would not pose a challenge for us. We are fully convinced that our ‘Time for Revolution’ project, based on the extensive use of 23-foot side/top/rear-loading containers, creates opportunities for broader application in the Baltic countries. “The discussions we are currently holding with partners in these countries should, over time, generate new opportunities and innovative logistics solutions,” concluded Marcin Witczak.

The Polish operator’s core business consists of the comprehensive organization of transport for various cargo groups, utilizing intermodal transport and innovative Laude containers, as well as conventional road, rail, river, and sea transport. Laude Smart Intermodal operates intermodal trains between Poland and Ukraine, as well as Germany. It also offers transshipment services at the Laude Smart Intermodal logistics center in Zamość.

The Laude Logistics Center in Zamość is located on both the LHS broad-gauge line (1520 mm) and the standard-gauge line (1435 mm) and specializes in transshipping goods and containers transported through the Izov/Hrubieszów border crossing, located approximately 60 km away on the Polish-Ukrainian border.
