Latvian Railways, affected by the Ukrainian crisis

Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railways) has lost about half a million tonnes of freight due to the Ukrainian crisis, LDz President Ugis Magonis said in an interview. Thus, Latvia has lost about EUR 7.5 Million in freight transport.
The company believes that the amount of oil product and coal freights will reduce overall, as Europe is trying to become independent from Russia’s resources. Therefore, a gradual reduction in the amount of these freights is inevitable.
Freight transit makes up 12% of Latvia’s gross domestic product, the largest share of railway freight transport coming from Russia.
