Last two design contracts for Rail Baltica in Latvia signed

RB Rail signed two contracts for the design and design supervision services for the remaining two sections of the Rail Baltica main line in Latvia. EUR 20.4 million is the total value of the contracts signed on behalf of Latvia’s Ministry of Transport.

Ineco-Ardanuy consortium won a EUR 13.5 million contract for the 94 km section from Vangaži  to the Latvian-Estonian state border. This is the longest design section in Latvia and includes 13 bridges, 36 road viaducts, 3 railway viaducts, 119 culverts and 3 animal crossings. Design works will be carried out 30 months.

A EUR 6.9 million contract for the railway section from Misa to the Latvian-Lithuanian state border was awarded to Idom, Consulting, Engineering, Architecture. The section is 45 km long and includes

4 bridges, 16 road viaducts, 4 railway viaducts, 54 culverts and one animal crossing. The design works will take 24 months.

The selected contractors will be responsible for site investigations, value engineering, development of the master design and detailed technical design for construction of the railway track, and author supervision during the entire construction period.

“The start of construction work in Latvia will create new jobs and make a significant contribution to the development of construction-related industries,” said Tālis Linkaits, Latvia’s Minister of Transport.

By signing these two contracts, the design activities are proceeding for the entire Rail Baltica line on Latvia’s territory, including the two passenger terminals at Riga Central Station and the airport. This “means that a total of 643 km of the Rail Baltica main line are being designed in all three Baltic States,” Agnis Driksna, the Chairperson of RB Rail Management Board, said.

85% of the funding necessary for these Rail Baltica design works is provided by the European Union and 15% by the Latvian Government.
