Krakow to receive EIB loan for the new trams

The European Investment Bank intends to provide MPK Kraków a loan of PLN 376 million (EUR 87 million) for the acquisition of new trams and the modernisation of the existing vehicles. The total value of the project is PLN 800 million (EUR 184 million).
10 existing trams will be modernised and, under the public transport company’s plans, the acquisition programme envisages up to 90 new trams, which will replace the obsolete units.
In January, MPK Kraków signed with the joint venture comprising Solaris Bus & Coach and Stadler Polska the contract for the supply of 35 new trams, with an option for additional 15 vehicles. The value of the contract is PLN 314 million (EUR 71.9 million) and it has received a PLN 125 million (EUR 28.6 million) co-financing under Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014–2020. The first batch of trams will be delivered the beginning of 2020 and in the third quarter of 2020 all trams should be delivered.
