Kontron Transportation has secured a new major contract worth EUR 100 million following the extension of an existing framework agreement with a European railway operator.
According to the company, which did not name the operator, the contract reaffirms the company’s role as a long-term technology partner for mission-critical rail communications systems and covers the annual provision of maintenance and security services through the end of 2035, with an option to extend through 2040.
With this award, Kontron Transportation strengthens its position in the European market, demonstrating its expertise in providing and maintaining communications systems essential for the safe operation of rail networks.
The solutions developed by the company are designed to meet the high standards of the rail sector, enabling operators to manage their communications infrastructure safely, reliably, and in a way that adapts to future requirements. In the event of incidents, fast response and resolution times are essential for maintaining train service, particularly when it comes to critical systems.
According to the company, the experience gained over the years and its technical expertise enable rapid remote diagnosis of faults and, in many cases, their resolution in a very short time. This helps increase the availability and stability of communications systems.
Kontron Strengthens Its Role in the Transition from GSM-R to FRMCS
In addition to ensuring high system availability, information security is becoming increasingly important in the context of the digitalization of railway infrastructure. Requirements in this area will continue to grow, necessitating additional technical and organizational measures, and the framework agreement provides the necessary foundation for their implementation.
