Kazakhstan reveals plans for transit corridor development

KTZ_trenuri marfa_22Kazakhstan’s transit potential will continue to grow until 2020 due to improvement of cooperation between Russia and China, as well as Russia and Iran, according to the Kazakh Cross-Border Cooperation Association’s representative Marat Shibutov. The remarks were made at the World of Eurasia expert club meeting on the theme “Expanding the single market: the transit potential of the EAU” in Astana. He said that the tougher the stance of the West towards Russia is, the more concessions it will have to make to China.
“Thus, Russia will still come to transit through Kazakhstan,” he said. “Therefore, the harder the sanctions against Russia will be, the better the transit potential of Kazakhstan will develop. Russia would simply have no other choice.”
Today’s global policy on the transit of oil and gas is at a such state that it becomes more profitable to have several supply routes in order not to depend on the policy of another state, the political commentator Oleg Sidorov said at the meeting.
