Japan and Philippines to sign financial agreement on Manila metro system

Philippines Department for Transport (DOTr) announced that the groundbreaking of Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is scheduled for the third-fourth quarter of 2018 and it will be completed by 2022. It will be fully operational in 2025.
This November, the Governments of Japan and the Philippines will sign the Exchange of Notes (EN), an agreement that sets out Japan’s commitment to finance MMSP, including the terms for such financing. The agreement will be signed during the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Manila.
The MMSP projects envisages the construction of a 30-km metro system with 14 stations starting in Quirino Highway (Mindanao Avenue) and with terminus at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The construction works will start next year.
The project was approved in September with an initial investment estimated at PHP 355.6 billion (USD 6.9 billion).
