Istanbul to build 4 new metro lines

Istanbul metro-onThe Istanbul Municipality announced that four new metro lines will be build in the comming years. The construction will begin shortly on Mecidiyeköy-Kabataş line, Ataköy-İkitelli line and Bakırköy-Bağcılar line, on European side and Dudullu-Bostancı line on the Asian side. They will have a total length of over 40 kilometers, Mayor Kadir Topbaş announced.
New metro lines will be connected with the existing lines, and will largely serve to integrate Istanbul’s rail network with its sea transport, while linking residential districts with industrial areas.
Efforts to expand Istanbul metro network are still underway with new lines planned to reach as far as Beylikdüzü on the European side to Pendik on the Asian side.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during his tenure as prime minister in 2013 that it was envisioned to expand the network to over 700 kilometers this decade.
