Istanbul to allocate EUR 1.8 billion to transport

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s consolidated budget for 2015 is 31.8 billion lira (11,5 billion euros). The sum includes the budget of the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI), the Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Establishment (IETT) and other administrations. Of this amount, 12 billion lira (EUR 4.35 billion) is set aside for investments next year.
About 5.0 billion lira (EUR 1.8 billion) of the investment budget will be allocated to transport. According to plans, the rail network capacity of Istanbul will reach 7.0 million people in 2016 and 11 million people in 2019.
Up to 2.0 billion lira (EUR 724 million) will be spent on the construction of rail lines, of which 1.19 billion lira (EUR 430 million) for rail lines on the Asian side of Istanbul and 832 million lira (overEUR 300 million) for the European side.
