Israel Railways announced the prequalified suppliers for electrification programme

Israel Railways (IR) announced that it has shortlisted five prequalified suppliers for a design-supply-build-maintain contract for the first stage of its electrification programme.
The companies are Alstom and Afcon Holdings (Israel), CPRM (a consortium of China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau Group and Pan-Mediterranean Engineering, China), Elecnor (Spain), SEMI (Spain) and Siemens.
The electrification plan covers the conversion of 420 kilometers of existing and planned railway lines, and constructing transformer stations and control systems. The first lines to be electrified will be the rapid Tel Aviv-Jerusalem link and the Acre-Karmiel line, both of which are currently under construction. The first electric train arrived in Israel last March.
