Information supply: anywhere, anytime

In railway transport, information delivery in real time is the vital factor for traffic development and prevention of incidents. Therefore, work tasks, changes of schedule and responsabilities are few of the daily activities of employees, being often coordinated by a large flow of information. Gaining absolutely necessary information is usually a time-consuming process and the solution for solving this problem is the electronic supply.

Although, currently, the information related to the activity of the employees and future programmes are distributed through multiple channels and a variety of media alternatives (paper, e-mail, PC application, phone, etc.), this determines costs on the delivery of information and its loss due to the discontinuity of media channels. For example, the information exchange regarding the activity of engine drivers means elaborating reports, updating coordinates, drawing attention on schedule modification, local directions and signalling breakdowns, etc., these are time-consuming activities. The use of systems facilitating the delivery and reception of these data is crucial in transport.
The “Rail-in-Motion” system supplies customized data on the activity of the employee through a single operating information transfer device which could be used as web service which is connected to the existing of new online services and which could also be used as local application where the availability of connection is necessary.
This system permits the elaboration of priority lists set according to deadlines and, during planning, the team extracts top priorities specified in the elaborated list and decides on the method of implementation and necessary time, budgets, etc. In this period, an application called “ScumMaster” keeps the team focused on the final purpose and, when the whole application cycle is finalized, it elaborates a revision and a retrospective of the activity to help the team select future priorities. This action is repeated until the application of the entire list from the point of view of both budget allocation and setting the deadlines. What is important is that, irrespective of the implication of factors which can halt the implementation of directives, the system conveys information ensuring that a great part of the work is finalized (when the project is completed).
An instrument for information supply to field staff is “maid” (mobile assistant for information and data), a PC platform for sharing data and “mobile” users communications, which means that the employee will benefit from complete and constantly updated information. One of the important characteristics, except for availability, is the security aspect. Using a secured access method, the employee connects to internet via “maid” system which will grant access to information on the stage of its activity.
The employee can access the information stored on the local device which is automatically updated and the devices have to benefit from increased security level to permit only the access of authorised users to the information they want to access.
In technical terms, this takes place by means of interfaces with individual IT applications and “maid” system which acts as protection instrument which identifies the profile of the user at the moment of the certification checking the elements that they can access (certification). In this way, the gateway connects to the company’s communication and IT systems and makes sure that the information exchange is safe.
