Indonesia to build additional tracks on Jakarta-Surabaya route

The Indonesian government has decided to build new tracks for the Jakarta-Surabaya railway link which would run parallel to the existing 700 km of railway tracks in the northern coastal areas of Java. The new tracks would use land owned by state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), the Transportation Ministry’s railway traffic director, Zulmafendi, said.
The new tracks will be elevated to pass over roads and will cut travel time to under five hours as there will be no railway crossings.
There was no mention of a partner company in the construction of the project, but Japanese technology would likely be used, as previously suggested by government officials.
