India completes locomotive delivery to Myanmar

Indian state-owned engineering consultancy company RITES Ltd. has handed over the final batch of six YDM-4 diesel-electric locomotives to Myanma Railways (Myanmar) during an official ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw. The new YDM-4 locomotives have a microprocessor-based control. The location of the locomotives, their travelling speed and status can be monitored with software downloaded from the factory.
In total, Myanma Railways purchased 18 locomotives with loans procured from India’s Exim Bank. India handed over the first batch of six locomotives in July 2017 and another batch of six locomotives in November 2017. The 18 new locomotives will be used on Yangon-Mandalay, Mandalay-Myitkyina and Yangon-Mawlamyine railway lines.
