Hungary to be member of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

AIIBHungary could become a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in the second half of the year, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI.
Hungary could join AIIB as ordinary member in H2. Hungary does not wish to be a founding member, but an ordinary member, Szijjártó said. Hungaryʼs government decided to request AIIB membership last week, Szijjártó said. The bank is expected to start operating at the end of this year, thus a decision on membership requests is seen being taken in the second half of the year, after which rules governing the bankʼs operation will be approved, he added. Hungary expects its membership with the AIIB to improve its international financing network and strengthen its presence on Asian markets, Szijjártó said.
