How Madrid’s subway became one of the most sought-after film sets

In 2025, the Madrid Metro became one of the most important urban settings for the audiovisual industry in Spain. During the year, 23 films were shot in stations and other areas of the network, involving more than 1,200 professionals and almost 200 hours of filming.

Regional authorities point out that the Madrid metro has become a recurring setting for film productions, series, and advertising campaigns, consolidating its status as an “urban set” integrated into the city’s real infrastructure.

From literature to international productions

Among the landmark projects of 2025 is the film adaptation of the novel Ceniza en la boca, written by Brenda Navarro, for which Mexican director Diego Luna chose the Barrio del Pilar station as one of the main settings. Filming took place in Madrid, Barcelona, and Mexico City.

The Núñez de Balboa station hosted scenes from the production Mi querida señorita, directed by Fernando González Molina, as well as sequences from the series Grande de España, starring Antonio de la Torre.

Other locations, such as Herrera Oria and Paco de Lucía, were used for filming La última canción, La maleta, Los Protegidos, and the third season of the series El Inmortal.

The network’s international projection was reinforced by the filming of the series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, shot in the old passageway of Noviciado station and in Plaza de España, which were transformed to recreate a post-apocalyptic setting.

The production Has Fallen 2 also used Estadio Metropolitano station for several sequences.

Advertising and brand image

In addition to the film industry, the Madrid metro has also attracted numerous advertising campaigns. Brands such as Oysho, L’Oréal, Bosch, BBVA, Fotocasa, and Airbus have chosen Metro de Madrid spaces to promote their products, capitalizing on the image associated with modern urban mobility.

This openness to the audiovisual sector is possible thanks to a well-coordinated system that allows filming to take place without affecting train traffic or passenger safety. Metro de Madrid provides technical coordination, security measures, and adapts the schedule to the requirements of each production.

An infrastructure that generates added value

The activity in 2025 confirms the transformation of the Madrid metro into one of the most important urban settings in Spain.

Beyond cultural visibility, filming is also a source of ancillary revenue for the operator, in a context where large transport networks are seeking solutions to diversify their sources of funding.

By integrating its transport infrastructure into local and international productions, Metro de Madrid is strengthening its global image and helping to promote the Spanish capital as a creative and audiovisual hub.
