Hitachi Rail to provides technical support for 15 years for the Singapore Metro

Hitachi Rail has secured a long-term support contract for the integrated supervision and control system of Singapore’s North East Line (NEL). The 15-year contract will begin in 2026 and aims to maintain the reliability of the line’s control system.

The agreement was signed for the Integrated Supervision Control System (ISCS), the system that integrates the monitoring and control of the line’s main equipment. It plays an essential role in the safe and efficient operation of urban rail infrastructure.

Technology Obsolescence Management

Under this contract, Hitachi Rail will provide technical expertise to manage issues related to the technology obsolescence of the ISCS system. The program aims to replace ad-hoc interventions and temporary solutions with a structured, long-term support model.

NEL is operated by SBS Transit Rail, and Hitachi Rail has been collaborating with the operator since 2003, when it supported the original ISCS system for the company’s first MRT line.

The new contract strengthens this collaboration and expands Hitachi Rail’s technical presence in Singapore, at a time when the reliability of control systems is becoming increasingly important for high-frequency urban transit networks.

Critical Role in Line Operations

The ISCS system enables integrated monitoring and control of multiple line subsystems, helping to coordinate daily operations and maintain safety.

Hitachi Rail notes that the program will support the North East Line’s operational objectives over the next 15 years and reduce reliance on short-term repairs.

“We are expanding our long-standing partnership with SBS Transit. This support contract will help address system aging in a structured manner and support the reliable operation of the North East Line,” said Cyrille Bataille, Head of APAC Market at Hitachi Rail.
