Deutsche Bahn (DB) has launched a special edition of its discount card, Probe BahnCard Gold, to mark the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics. The offer allows holders to travel free of charge on long-distance trains in Germany on the day after each gold medal won by German athletes.
On those days, the BahnCard Gold will function directly as a travel ticket for all long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn within Germany.
The mechanism is valid exclusively for holders of the promotional card launched specifically for the Winter Olympics period.
Discounts valid regardless of results
Even in the absence of a gold medal, the Probe BahnCard Gold offers standard discounts: 25% discount on Super Sparpreis and Sparpreis fares, as well as 25% or 50% discount on Flexpreis fares, depending on the type of card chosen.
Prices and availability
The Probe BahnCard Gold is available between January 16 and February 5 and is valid for three months. The card is available in the following versions:
BahnCard 25 Gold: from EUR 19.90 (2nd class)
BahnCard 50 Gold: from EUR 76.90 (2nd class)
After the trial period expires, the card automatically converts to a standard subscription unless canceled.
Promotional campaign featuring German winter sports legends
The launch of Probe BahnCard Gold is supported by a TV campaign dedicated to winter sports fans, featuring former German Olympic champions such as Markus Wasmeier, Sven Hannawald, and Viktoria Rebensburg, who are shown traveling on ICE trains. The commercial is also broadcast on the company’s online platforms.
