Florence airport tram line inaugurated

Italy’s President, Sergio Mattarella, officially inaugurated Florence Tram 2 line linking city’s old center (Piazza dell’Unità) to the Firenze-Peretola airport within 20 minutes. The line has a total length of 5.3 km served by 12 stops. It is estimated that, annually, 17 million passengers will use this new tram connection.
The Infrastructure Minister, Danilo Toninelli, Tuscany President, Enrico Rossi, the Mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, and Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu, also attended the official ceremony.
The T2 starts at the aiport terminal, under viale Guidoni and the main train route from Florence to Pisa, and subsquently unites on via Novoli, to the Piazza dell’Unità. From Guido Monaco, via Alamanni, the line has a connection with the existing Line 1 at Santa Maria Novella station.
The authorities announced that the travel will be free of charge for 15 days (until 24 February).
