Five bidders for Bucharest’s metro train contract

Metrorex, Bucharest metro transport operator, had received five offers for the procurement of 13 metro trains until the 7th of August, the deadline for the submission of offers in the contract.
The bids came from Alstom France, CAF Spain, CRRC Qingdao – Astra Vagoane Consortium (China – Romania), Hyundai Rotem from South Korea and Metrowagonmash from Russia. The estimate cost of the tender is EUR 254 million and the deadline for the financial evaluation is 20 February 2020.
Metrowagonmash is part of CJSC Transmashholding, the biggest manufacturer of locomotives and railway equipment in Russia.
Apart from the 13 units, a simulator for the training of the operation staff will also be procured. The delivery deadline stipulated in the contract is 42 months. The future contract will also include an option for another 17 new trains at the most for operation on Bucharest metro Line 5, Drumul Taberei – Iancului line, Râul Doamnei – Eroilor section.
