Polish railway infrastructure manager Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) has signed a EUR 618 million contract to double the Gdynia Chylonia – Lębork line, part of main line No. 202.
The design and construction work will be carried out by the Krakow-based company ZUE, and completion is planned by the end of 2029. The project will receive European co-financing through the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment Program 2021–2027 (FEnIKS).
Railway line No. 202 will meet the standards expected by passengers on this section. The platforms at 14 stations and stops will be rebuilt, with improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Access to rail transport will also be improved for residents of the Wejherowo district (a key hub on the Trójmiasto–Słupsk route), where five new stations will be built.
As a result of the doubling of the line on certain sections, capacity will be increased for both passenger and freight trains.

For smoother and safer travel, 55 km of existing track, the contact network, and 73 bridges, viaducts, and underpasses will be modernized. To increase safety, 12 level crossings will be replaced with road or rail overpasses. A new rail traffic control system will also be implemented, managed from a new Local Control Center in Wejherowo.
The doubling of the Gdynia Chylonia – Lębork line is preceded by work on the section between Lębork and Słupsk, which has been under construction for two years, with both sections forming part of the main line No. 202 connecting Pomerania with the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
“We are allocating billions of zlotys, among other things, to modernize line No. 202 from Gdynia to Słupsk, line No. 201 from Bydgoszcz to Gdynia, as well as to provide rail access to the future Lubiatowo–Kopalino nuclear power plant. The modernization of line no. 202 will ensure fast and comfortable travel between Słupsk and Trójmiasto (Tri-City), with platforms adapted to all passengers, including those with reduced mobility,” said Marcin Mochocki, PKP PLK director for investment implementation.

The implementation of works along the entire Gdynia Chylonia–Słupsk route will reduce the travel time of the fastest passenger trains by approximately 15 minutes. Passenger trains will run at speeds of up to 160 km/h (compared to 120 km/h currently), and freight trains at up to 120 km/h (compared to 70 km/h). In the long term, the goal is to reach speeds of 200 km/h.
The investment prepares the infrastructure for this next stage, planned as part of a separate project on the implementation of ERTMS. Line No. 202 is also part of the route that will provide rail access to the future Lubiatowo–Kopalino nuclear power plant.
