EU sends new equipment for Ukraine’s railways

The European Union has announced a new support package for Ukrzaliznytsia, which includes over 50 pieces of equipment intended for the restoration and maintenance of Ukraine’s railway infrastructure amid the war and ongoing attacks on the network.

Part of this aid was handed over to representatives of the Ukrainian railway company by a European Union delegation led by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

23 pieces of equipment already delivered, over 25 more announced

According to an announcement by Ukrzaliznytsia, 23 pieces of equipment, including vehicles and generators, have already been delivered through the European Union’s Foreign Policy Instruments Service (FPI).

In addition, the delivery of another over 25 pieces of equipment has been announced, including dump trucks, excavators, and trucks.

The company notes that this equipment will help accelerate the restoration and repair of affected infrastructure sections and facilities.

Generators for signaling and other railway systems

According to the Ukrainian operator, generators will be able to ensure, when needed and during power outages, the power supply to signal stations and other essential railway systems.

At the same time, as part of the joint Team Europe initiative, Germany will provide an additional 18 vehicles, with a total value of 600,000 EUR.

The equipment will go where it is most needed

Ukrzaliznytsia states that all the equipment will be distributed to various divisions of the company and will be used where it is most needed, to ensure the continuity of passenger and freight traffic and to strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian railway system.

For Ukraine, the railway remains one of the country’s critical infrastructures, both for domestic mobility and for freight transport and wartime logistics, which explains the emphasis placed by European partners on supporting the railway network.
