Etihad Rail has unveiled details of the United Arab Emirates’ comprehensive national passenger rail network ahead of the launch of the first phase of commercial services, scheduled for 2026. The project marks a key moment in the development of the country’s transport infrastructure and will be the UAE’s first integrated national passenger rail network.
The network will connect 11 cities and regions through strategically located stations, strengthening links between the Emirates and providing a safe and reliable mobility alternative for residents, citizens, and visitors.
11 cities and regions connected by a unified national network
After announcing the first four stations in early 2025 – in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah – Etihad Rail has now revealed the rest of the planned stations, which will become operational in phases.
The newly announced stations are located in Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya, and Al Dhaid, completing the national passenger network.
“A pillar of the national transport ecosystem”
According to Azza AlSuwaidi, deputy director of mobility at Etihad Rail, the launch of passenger services reflects the strategic vision of the Emirates’ leadership to build an integrated transport ecosystem capable of supporting the country’s economic and social development.
She emphasized that the passenger network will become a central element of national transport, building on the experience gained from operating freight rail services, active since 2023, and on close collaboration between national and international partners.
At the same time, Etihad Rail has equipped the network with state-of-the-art rolling stock and advanced technologies to ensure high standards of safety, reliability, and quality.
A modern, congestion-free travel experience
The trains have been designed to offer a comfortable and modern travel experience, including:
- ergonomic and safe seats;
- contemporary interior design;
- Wi-Fi throughout the journey;
- individual power sockets for each seat.
The services will operate on a regular and precise schedule, providing an efficient alternative to road transport and helping to reduce traffic congestion between major cities.
Launch in 2026 and fleet ready for operation
Etihad Rail Project Director Mohammed Alshehii has confirmed that commercial services will launch in 2026, and in the first phase, the network will connect 11 strategically selected cities and key areas, including Mohammed Bin Zayed City (Abu Dhabi), Jumeirah Golf Estates (Dubai), University City (Sharjah), and the Al Hilal area (Fujairah).
Of the 13 trains in the fleet, 10 have already been delivered, tested, and certified to the highest international safety and quality standards. Each train will be able to carry up to 400 passengers and will be operated with modern systems integrated into the wider transport network, so that stations are connected to other modes of transport.
A large-scale national project
According to Etihad Rail, the project is the result of three years of planning, design, and implementation, totaling 24.5 million hours of work and involving over 7,000 specialists and workers.
Beyond mobility, the passenger rail network is expected to generate broad national benefits, including:
- stimulating domestic tourism;
- reducing emissions;
- strengthening social and economic ties between the Emirates;
- increasing accessibility and quality of life.
