European Loc Pool is once again expanding its fleet of Stadler EuroDual locomotives with an order for a further 20 units. The new locomotives will be authorised for operation in Germany and Austria, as well as in Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, bringing the leasing company’s total fleet to 144 locomotives.
European Loc Pool (ELP), a Swiss company specialising in locomotive leasing, has signed a new contract with Stadler Valencia for the purchase of 20 EuroDual locomotives.
The order marks a new stage in the expansion of ELP’s fleet, which will thus reach 144 locomotives.
The new EuroDual locomotives will be authorised for use in Germany and Austria, as well as in Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, enabling them to operate on several European rail freight corridors.
Since the outset, ELP has focused on modern six-axle locomotives, which it provides to freight operators under full-service leasing contracts.
EuroDual, 6.2 MW in electric mode
The Stadler EuroDual locomotive combines electric traction with a high-power diesel engine, enabling it to operate on both electrified lines and sections without overhead lines.
The locomotives deliver up to 6.2 MW in electric mode and 2.8 MW with the diesel engine, whilst the maximum starting tractive force is 500 kN.
This configuration allows the locomotives to be used both on the main line, hauling heavy freight trains, and for first- and last-kilometre operations or on non-electrified industrial lines.
ELP believes that demand for such locomotives will remain high, given the need for freight operators to use the same vehicle on infrastructure with different characteristics.

He added that the EuroDual has been one of the main components of the company’s fleet from the very beginning.
Long-standing partnership with Stadler
The new order continues the collaboration between European Loc Pool and Stadler Valencia, the division of Swiss manufacturer Stadler specialising, amongst other things, in locomotives.
The two companies have already introduced six-axle locomotives to several European rail freight markets.

ELP is providing the locomotives on a full-service lease basis, which also includes rolling stock maintenance.
ELP is relying on six-axle hybrid locomotives
In addition to the EuroDual, the company’s fleet also includes Euro9000 locomotives, an evolution of the EuroDual and Euro4000 families developed by Stadler.
The Euro9000 can generate up to 9 MW in electric mode and features a diesel module with an output of 1.9 MW. As with the EuroDual, the starting tractive force reaches 500 kN.
