ELL Polska delivers first Vectron to Bahnoperator

Siemens Mobility has handed over the first Vectron multi-system locomotive to ELL Polska Asset Sp. z o.o., marking the start of a new partnership with the Polish rolling stock leasing company. The new locomotive will be operated by Bahnoperator, a leading international freight carrier, and has been named “Marco Polo”.

The delivery represents a milestone for both companies: it is the first Vectron MS for a Polish customer with approval for Italy and the first unit purchased by ELL Polska Asset with co-financing from Poland’s National Reconstruction Plan (Krajowy Plan Odbudowy – KPO).

Expanding cross-border freight capacity

The purchase includes two zero-emission Vectron MS locomotives, financed through the Centre for EU Transport Projects as part of efforts to strengthen sustainable and competitive intermodal transport. The project aims to boost the efficiency of international freight logistics and encourage greater use of rail in general cargo transport.

The Vectron MS locomotives feature 6.4 MW of power under alternating current and 6.0 MW under direct current, and are equipped with ETCS Baseline 3 for interoperability across Europe. They are certified for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Croatia.

Supporting Eurasian freight corridors

Bahnoperator will deploy the new locomotives primarily on intermodal routes linking Asia with terminals in Italy, leveraging their multi-system capability to improve transport times and reduce the need for locomotive changes at borders.

“The expansion of our fleet is a clear signal for sustainable development and international integration in rail freight transport,” said Marcel Stein, CEO of the Bahnoperator Group. “Vectron technology supports our vision of making long-distance transport more efficient, safer and more environmentally friendly.

“With this investment, the Bahnoperator Group is strengthening its position as a leader in the Eurasian rail transport market and continuing its growth, with an emphasis on quality, reliability and customer proximity. The cooperation with ELL, a professional supplier of Siemens Vectron locomotives, fits perfectly into our business strategy.”
