Electrification works to begin on Brno – Střelice line

Within the next weeks, the railway infrastructure manager of Czech Republic, Správa železnic, will launch the electrification works for the railway line linking Brno and Zastávka u Brna, a municipality in Brno-Country District.

The building permit was already acquired for the first section from Brno to Střelice and soon the winner of the contract will be selected.

The project’s objective is a reconstruction and electrification of a 10 km rail section from Brna-Horní Heršpice to Střelice and the construction of two new stops. After the completion, trains will be running at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and following ETCS installation, they will be able to run at speeds of 120 km/h.

EUR 72.6 million (CZK 2 billion) is the value of the project which is expected to be completed within 21 months from contract signing.

During the second stage, a second track will be constructed to the connecting section from Střelice to Zastávka u Brna and it will be electrified. The double-track line from Brno to Střelice will be electrified by an alternate power traction system. At the same time, a new signalling equipment will be acquired which will be remotely controlled from the Brno Main Station, when the construction will be completed.

Under the project the existing railway stops at Troubsko and Střelice dolní will be modernised and two new stops at Brno-Starý Lískovec and Ostopovice will be constructed. A platform with a height of 550 mm above the track with barrier-free access will be built. Besides an external platform at the passenger building, Střelice station will have another centre one, with the access being provided from an underpass by stairs of by lift. The platform will be from 170 to 220 metres long.
