EIB may finance Pilsen tram acquisition

The European Investment Bank is evaluating a project launched by the Pilsen City Transport Company on the acquisition of new trams and trolley-buses including the reconstruction of the depot facilities in Slovany, Czech Republic.
The total value of the project is EUR 163 million, of which EIB proposed financing is EUR 50 million.
The city will purchase up to 34 trams that will replace the old rolling stock.
Recently, the Pilsen City Transport Company awarded Škoda Transportation a contract for the delivery of 22 ForCity Smart trams. The value of the contract is EUR 38.75 million and it includes an option for additional trams. According to Plzeň’s requirements and specifications, the new trams will be three-section, bi-directional, and 100% low-floor.
With these new vehicles, city’s low-floor tram fleet will increase from 69% to 86%.
