EIA approved for Kuala Lumpur –Singapore HSR

Malaysia’s Department of Environment (DOE) approved, on April 2, 2018, the Environmental Impact Assessment report for Kuala Lumpur –Singapore High Speed Rail project. This marks another milestone for MyHSR Corporation in advancing the project towards obtaining the Railway Scheme approval.
The EIA report is a requirement under the Environmental Quality Act, which looks to identify, predict, and evaluate the impact on the environment brought about by the KL-SG HSR project. Additionally,
the EIA report identifies and proposes mitigating measures to manage these impacts during the
construction and operations stages.
The EIA report submitted to the DOE was approved with conditions to be complied with during construction and operational phases of the high-speed railway line.
“The EIA report approval marks a significant development that paves the way forward for the KL-SG HSR project. We have developed the necessary measures to address and minimise the potential impacts throughout the life-cycle of the project, which consist of pre-construction, during construction, and operations,” said Dato’ Mohd Nur Ismal bin Mohamed Kamal, CEO of MyHSR Corp.
The KL-SG HSR involves the construction of a 330-km double railway line served by 8 stations, of which 7 built in Malaysia, and the end station, Jurong East, in Singapore. The value of the project is estimated at USD 16 billion.
