Delhi opens a new section of Line 8

Delhi Metro has officially opened Kalkaji Mandir – Janakpuri West Magenta corridor (Line 8) which provides connectivity to city’s arterial Outer Ring Road and, for the first time, the line will also link the airport’s domestic terminal with metro network.
Janakpuri West – Kalkaji Mandir section has 16 stations and a length of 24.8 km, of which 22 km are underground and the rest of the length is elevated line (two stations are elevated).
“Delhi Metro now has a network of 277 kilometres. By December this year, it will reach the 380 kilometre mark,” Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri said.
The new line has interchange stations with the Blue Line and Yellow Line.
Magenta corridor will have a total length of 159 km, of which 87 km were opened and 72 km are scheduled to be opened under the metro network developemtn strategy.
Currently, the total length of Delhi’s metro system is 277 km, including this recently opened line, and it has 19 interchange stations.
