Czech Republic: modernisation of Plzeň main station begins

Railway infrastructure manager SŽDC has officially launched the first phase of Plzeň main station and railway junction modernisation. Following modernisation, trains will be able to run at speeds of up to 80 km/h compared to the current 20 km/h at turnouts. The project will also increase traffic fluidity and will reduce operation and maintenance costs. Also, the installation of a new signalling system will improve railway safety.
The eastern side of the rail station will be reconstructed in the first phase of the project. The project is worth CZK 1.67 Million (EUR 60,800) and will receive CZK 1.36 Million (EUR 49,500) through the Operational Programme Transport.
