Cummins to showcase X15 and QSK60 engines at TRAKO 2025

At TRAKO 2025, taking place from 23rd to 26th September in Gdańsk, Cummins Poland will be exhibiting the X15 and QSK60 engines, both certified to Stage V emissions standards.

The ‘Ultimate’ – at the European Master Rebuild Centre (MRC) in Kraków, where the rebuild was carried out in a world-class, controlled environment by certified technicians.

Although they serve different purposes, both exemplify Cummins’ commitment to high performance, reliability, and low total cost of ownership.

– The X15 is engineered for smaller, more agile applications, including DMUs or “last-mile” modules. This engine features a suite of innovative electronic technologies focused on fuel efficiency and is capable of delivering up to 675 hp (503 kW).

– The QSK60 is designed for heavy-duty applications, including hybrid locomotives. It features a modular common-rail fuel system, a sophisticated electronic control system, and advanced engine monitoring technology to ensure optimal performance and diagnostics. In its V16 configuration, the QSK60 delivers up to 2,700 hp (2,013 kW).

The QSK60 has been successfully implemented in rail operations around the world, including Taiwan and South America where the locomotives are pulling freight at high altitude in the Andes.

The QSK60 has been successfully deployed in rail operations worldwide, including in Taiwan and across South America, where locomotives operate at high altitudes in the Andes transporting freight. Both the X15 and QSK60 are engineered for longevity, with extended maintenance intervals and robust components helping to reduce overall operating costs.

“Our presence at the TRAKO 2025 trade fair is not only a presentation of advanced technologies, such as the X15 and QSK60 engines, but above all a confirmation of our commitment to the development of modern and sustainable rail transport in Poland,” says Marek Matuszewski, Country Leader of Cummins Poland.

Cummins Poland has recently been boosted by the opening of the European Master Rebuild Centre (MRC) in Kraków – a USD 10 million investment dedicated to the rebuild and remanufacture of high-horsepower engines.

The state-of-the-art 4,600-square-metre facility – complemented by an additional 960 square metres of modern warehouse space dedicated to serving Cummins customers in the region – enables rail operators to extend the life of their hard-working engines given an extended lease of life after a rebuild to factory original equipment standard.

“Thanks to our Master Rebuild Centre, we are able to not only supply new engines, parts and service to our customers, but also to offer factory rebuilds. We are entering the Polish rail market with great satisfaction, and we are very pleased to be able to offer solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and environmental performance. We believe that Cummins has an important role to play in the future of rail transport in Poland and our region” explains Marek Matuszewski.

Recently, a nine-year-old Cummins QSK23 from a shunting locomotive underwent the highest level of remanufacture – the ‘Ultimate’ – at the MRC, where the rebuild was carried out in a world-class, controlled environment by certified technicians.

The diesel-electric switcher had accumulated 18,131 operating hours and covered over 100,000 kilometres since 2016, working the sidings of a quarry in south-west Poland.

In addition to extending the engine’s lifespan, the rebuild process—which includes complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, replacement of major components, design enhancements, and testing—can also improve engine’s fuel efficiency and performance, contributing to a more sustainable product lifecycle.

The Ultimate service level package, available at a fixed price, also includes the added peace of mind of a 12-month/unlimited hours warranty on parts and workmanship—equivalent to that offered on a new production engine.

Cummins Poland is a limited company headquartered in Modlniczka, near Kraków, with branches in Lubin, Gdańsk, and Łomianki, supported by a robust dealer network extending to Ukraine and the Baltic States.
In addition to rail, Cummins Poland is actively involved in the on-highway, mining, marine, construction, and agricultural sectors.
