CRRC to deliver additional double-deck trains to Sydney

CRRC Changchun has received a second order from Sydney for its double-deck trains. The order includes a total of 17 double-deck trains and the provision of the needed maintenance. Under the agreement, CRRC Changchun will be responsible for the design and manufacturing the trains, while its Australian partner, Downer, will deliver maintenance services.
The new trains will be fitted with air conditioning with advanced temperature control and monitoring systems, as well as facilities for passengers with disabilities.
The partnership between CRRC and Downer was established via Waratah Train Project. The NSW Government ordered a total of 626 carriages in December 2006, making it the largest single rolling stock order to date in Australia. CRRC as a subcontractor, was first-time involved in the rolling stock industry of Australia.
In 2015, CRRC and Downer decided to start strategic partnership within Australia and New Zealand. In 2016, CRRC and Downer won the contract for the supply of 24 double-deck Waratah trains, under the Sydney Growth Train project. Another important contract envisages the supply of 67 High Capacity Metro Trains under the Evolution Rail consortium, comprising Downer, CRRC Changchun and Plenary.
