Croatia: JASPERS to finance Zapresic-Zabok modernisation project

The Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure received a notice from JASPERS, an EU body providing assistance in major infrastructure projects, confirming that a project for the modernisation and electrification of the Zapresic-Zabok railway was ready, with acceptable costs of EU co-financing set at EUR 80.8 million, the ministry said.
“The confirmation of the readiness of the project is an important step in the approval procedure for, alongside the Peljesac bridge project, another strategic Croatian project, and the ministry and HZ Infrastructure, as the beneficiaries of the project, will continue with further activities to prepare the project and submit it to the European Commission,” the ministry said in a statement.
The project documentation will now be sent to the Ministry of Regional Development and EU funds which will submit it for an Independent Quality Review (IQR).
The project involves the modernisation and electrification of 23.9 km. Public procurement is envisaged for this year of 2017. The project is estimated to be completed in 2019.
