Austin Transit Partnership has selected the Austin Rail Constructors (ARC) consortium to build the light rail system in Austin, with main construction works scheduled to begin in 2027.

Austin Rail Constructors is a joint venture between Stacy Witbeck and Sundt Construction and will contribute to the design and delivery of nearly every component of the system, including the transit corridor, rail tracks, technical systems, stations, bridges, traffic signals, utilities, drainage structures and streetscape improvements.
Approval of the ARC consortium enables pre-construction activities to begin and final design to advance for Austin Light Rail, marking the first phase of a multi-year contract.
“This is a major and important milestone for the Austin light rail project. We are focused on delivering this essential mobility investment for the city, and with this contract in place we are on track to begin construction in 2027. Not only will Austin benefit from this major public transport project, but thousands of jobs and economic opportunities will be created here in Texas,” said ATP CEO Greg Canally.
Austin’s first light rail system предусматриes the construction of an approximately 16-kilometre line served by 15 stations. The route will begin in Crestview, pass through central and university districts to Waterfront, from where a southern branch with two stations will extend to Oltorf. From Waterfront, the line will continue towards Lakeshore and Yellow Jacket, with a future extension to the airport planned.
The project also includes the construction of a bridge over Lady Bird Lake, incorporating infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. The new urban mobility system will operate services every 5–10 minutes throughout the day and is designed to be fully expandable in the future.
The total project cost is estimated at nearly USD 7 billion, of which up to USD 3.2 billion is allocated for infrastructure and civil works, while more than USD 1 billion is earmarked for vehicle procurement and maintenance.
