China Railway orders 168 high-speed train cars from Bombardier

China Railway Corp. awarded Bombardier Sifang Transportation (BTS) a contract for the supply of 168 CR400AF new Chinese standard high-speed train cars, valued at CNY 3.1 billion (EUR 399 million).
This is Bombardier’s second contract for China’s high-speed rail network awarded this year.
The 168 cars will be configured into fifteen 8-car trainsets and three 16-car trainsets with an operating speed of 350 km/h.
“This repeat order comes just three months after the previous, clearly demonstrating the pace of development in the Chinese high-speed rail market as well as the trust that CRC has placed in our products and performance,” Jianwei Zhang, President, Bombardier Transportation China said.
Under the first contract with China Railway, Bombardier Sifang Transportation will deliver 120 CR400AF cars, configured into five 8-car trainsets and five 16-car trainsets with an operating speed of 350 km/h. The value of the contract is EUR 280 million.
Bombardier Transportation owns 50% of the shares in BST, which is consolidated by Bombardier Transportation’s partner CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. In China, the company has six joint ventures, seven wholly foreign-owned enterprises and more than 7,000 employees.
