China orders a high-speed rail grinding train from Vossloh

China has ordered a new HSG-2 (High Speed Grinding) high-speed rail grinding train from the German company Vossloh, strengthening the use of preventive maintenance on the world’s largest high-speed rail network.

According to the company, the train will be built in Hamburg and is scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2027.

Preventive maintenance on the high-speed rail network

Vossloh states that high-speed grinding technology has become an important component of maintenance on China’s high-speed network over the past decade.

Currently, this technology is used by 12 of the 18 regional railway administrations in China.

By 2025, approximately 42,000 kilometers of track had been treated preventively, including on some of the busiest lines, such as the Beijing–Shanghai line.

The world’s largest high-speed network

China’s high-speed rail network currently spans approximately 50,000 kilometers and is expected to exceed 70,000 kilometers by 2035.

According to Vossloh, the network expansion is accompanied by a preventive maintenance program designed to ensure long-term infrastructure availability and reliability.

“China demonstrates how effective preventive maintenance is in high-speed rail transport. The new order for capacity expansion confirms the high level of confidence in our technology,” said Oliver Schuster, CEO of Vossloh.
