China opens first section of Xi’an-Chengdu HSR

The China Railway Chengdu Group Co. announced that the Xi’an-Jiangyou section of the Xi’an-Chengdu high-speed line officially began service on 6 December. The construction of the Xi’an-Jiangyou section started in December 2012 and the testing and commissioning began in June 2017. Initially, nine pairs of direct trains from Chengdu East, Chongqingbei to Xi’anbei will be arranged by the railway department, including seven pairs from Chengdu East to Xi’anbei and two pairs from Chongqingbei to Xi’anbei.
The Xi’an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway is the first high-speed railway connecting southwest and northwest China through the Qinling mountains. The railway will run 658 kilometers from north Xi’an to east Chengdu, and will have an overall running speed of 250km/h. The line starts from Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, passes by Hanzhong, Guangyuan and enters Sichuan Province, connecting with the existing Mianyang-Chengdu-Leshan Railway and ending at Chengdu City.
