China expresses interest in Romania’s railway projects

During a meeting with China’s Minister of Transport, Li Xiaopeng, Romanian Minister of Transport, Lucian Sova, approached the problem of investments into the transport infrastructure and rolling stock procurement, as well as bilateral collaboration and implementation of projects.
“The objective of Romania’s Ministry of Transport is to support the development of an efficient, sustainable, flexible and safe transport system that would contribute to the country’s economic progress. For this to happen, it is necessary to connect all transport modes. The development of the transport sector in Romania has to consider necessary connections with the EU, but also with other regions, including Asia”, explained Romania’s Minister of Transport, Lucian Sova.
He explained that the Minister will make all necessary efforts to identify financing sources and to facilitate the access of investors to infrastructure construction.
Meeting the Chinese delegation, Lucian Sova said Romania was interested in partnerships for assembling rolling stock locally, both locomotives and passenger coaches, in getting involved in PPPs to upgrade the existing railway infrastructure and to build high-speed railways.
The two parties will also discuss in Beijing where agreements could be signed, the Romanian Ministry of Transport said in a press release.
The two ministers met in Belgrade at the reunion of the Ministers of Transport of China and Central and Eastern Europe countries, part of the “16+1” Cooperation Format.
