CFR SA announces new EU-financed projects

“We are preparing several projects, for some we will soon launch public tenders with pre-feasibility or feasibility studies. Regarding our major railway projects, those on the TEN-T corridor, the entrepreneurs have delays in execution or commissioning, but we hope they will accelerate the finalisation of projects. We hope to have these projects completed by the middle of 2019”, said Valentin Dorobantu, Deputy General Manager CFR SA.
The declaration was made while he was attending the Railway Days Summit organised by Club Feroviar and the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF) in Bucharest, on 16-17 October.
“To reach its investment objectives for the rehabilitation of railways and construction of new railways, CFR SA has a portfolio of projects in plan for the next European financing period. These projects are in different phases of preparation and the portfolio permits updating depending on railway transport market requirements”, pointed out Valentin Dorobantu.
New projects include:
• modernisation of Arad – Timisoara – Caransebes railway
• rehabilitation of Craiova – Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebes railway
• rehabilitation of Craiova – Calafat railway
• electrification and rehabilitation of Cluj – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway
• modernisation of Bucuresti Nord – Jilava – Giurgiu Nord – Giurgiu Nord Frontiera railway
• modernisation of Bucuresti Nord – Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport
• duplication of the railway between Mogosoaia and Balotesti railway stations
• electrification of Radulesti – Giurgiu Nord railway
• electrification and rehabilitation of Cluj – Coslariu railway
• electric energy telemetering and power compensation system in traction substations
• modernisation of level crossings
• modernisation of railway infrastructure of Constanta Port
• modernisation of Predeal-Brasov railway section
• modernisation of railway stations in Romania (47 stations)
• rehabilitation works for bridges, culverts and tunnels (phase II)
• repair / modernisation of railways (Bucharest-Brasov, Timisoara-Arad, Bucharest-Buzau, Bucharest-Craiova, Pascani-Iasi, Bucharest-Constanta, Bucharest-Pitesti), to ensure increased speed and quality of railway transport services (Quick Wins).
• modernisation of Ploiesti–Adjud-Focsani–Bacau-Roman-Pascani-Iasi-Frontiera

For the project regarding the electrification and rehabilitation of Cluj – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway, the feasibility study will be completed within a month, just like for Arad-Caransebes railway.
“The electrification and rehabilitation of Cluj – Coslariu railway was approved two months ago and we are about to launch the feasibility study too. The project for the modernisation of Constanta Port railway infrastructure modernisation is in the feasibility study phase. Unfortunately, the project for the modernisation of Predeal-Brasov railway section is still in the feasibility study phase, we soon hope to publish it in SEAP for the attribution procedure”, added CFR SA’s deputy general manager.
“A very important project is the modernisation of Bucuresti Nord – Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport. For this, we will soon publish the necessary documentation considering the short implementation period by 2020. It is a major project worth EUR 82 million. For the development period, we estimate 14 months of which the execution of the project will take 12 months”, said Valentin Dorobantu.
Of all major projects for the rehabilitation of infrastructure on Rhine-Danube Corridor (northern branch), CFR SA has 405.18 km completed and works are underway on 314.64 km. 140 km are in the tendering phase and 133 km are in the preparation phase.
