České dráhy launches tender for 120 multiple units

České dráhy announced three tenders for rolling stock acquisition, as the company continues plans for the modernisation of its fleet.
The three tenders envisage 90 modern passenger coaches for long-distance trains, 60 electric multiple units (EMU 240) and 60 diesel multiple units (DMU 120).
The contract on the 60 EMUs has a value of EUR 377 million (CZK 9.7 billion). The low-floor EMU train sets will have to be adapted to the two main traction systems in the Czech Republic (3 kV DC, 25 kV 50 Hz AC) and able to run at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The EMU will have a capacity of 240 seats, with compartments of the 1st and 2nd classes, equipped with electrical sockets and USB ports, Wi-Fi, and a 230 V socket for recharging of batteries of electric wheelchairs. They will be equipped with special systems for blind people and people with impaired vision (audio-video information system, information labels in Braille alphabet, etc).
In the operation it will be possible to couple up to 3 units in one train set controlled by one driver with a capacity of approx. 720 sitting places. High safety of operation will be ensured through the equipment with the most modern European train control system (ETCS).
Valuated at EUR 198 million (CZK 5.1 billion), the DMUs framework contract envisages the acquisition of 60 low-floor train sets with a capacity of up to 120 seats each. They will be equipped with ETCS and GSM-R communication equipment. The new DMUs will be put into service on regional and inter-regional transport network. In the operation it will be possible to couple up to 3 units in one train set controlled by one driver with a capacity of 360 sitting places.
These trains will also have the same features as the new EMUs. They will also be equipped with compartments of the 1st and 2nd classes, electrical sockets, USB ports and Wi-Fi, and special equipment for blind people and people with impaired vision.
Under the tender for the acquisition of new passenger coaches, České dráhy will make a framework contract with the winner for the supply of up to 90 coaches of various designs (e.g. of the 1st or 2nd classes) with the background for preparation of refreshments (bistro coaches) or multifunction equipment for the boarding and travelling of wheelchair passengers (PRM), for passengers with little babies (places for prams, nappy changing counters, children’s cinema) and with places for transport of bicycles. Individual types of coaches will then be purchased according to the actual needs of the national carrier and according to the outputs which it is to ensure within the framework of services in the public interest.
The coaches are intended for national and international trains with the speed up to 200 km/h. They will be fitted with modern air-conditioned systems, ergonomic reclining seats, electrical sockets as well as USB connectors Wi-Fi connection to the Internet and modern audio-video information system.
The tender is part of the “plan of renewal of the rolling stock of České dráhy after 2019, when new contracts are to be made for assurance of transport services in regions as well as on long-distance lines. We will make framework contracts with the tender winners and we will order individual vehicles according to the actual needs for assurance of transport,” said Miroslav Kupec, Member of the Board of Directors of České dráhy, responsible for technology, services and property.
