ČD wins contract to operate regional express trains in Moravia

Under the contract, ČD will operate three regional express train lines for six years: R8, R12, and R13. The contract will come into force on December 12, 2027, with the 2028 train schedule, while for the R12 line, it is scheduled to apply from the 2030 train schedule.

Return to the Brno–Ostrava axis

Under the new contract, the national carrier will continue its operations on the following lines:

  • R12: Brno – Olomouc – Jeseník / Šumperk
  • R13: Brno – Břeclav – Olomouc

At the same time, České dráhy is returning to the R8 Brno – Ostrava – Bohumín line, one of the most important railway axes in eastern Czech Republic, connecting the country’s second and third largest cities. This line is currently operated by RegioJet.

“Winning the tender for regional express trains in Moravia confirms that České dráhy can offer competitive solutions for regional and interregional rail transport that meet the requirements of the authorities and are also economically efficient. We are pleased that we will continue to operate key connections in Moravia and that we are returning to the Brno–Ostrava axis,” said Michal Krapinec, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company.

Almost 5 million kilometers annually

The total volume of contracted services amounts to almost 5 million kilometers per year.

There will be one train per hour on the R8 line, while the R12 and R13 lines will be served by trains every two hours, with the possibility of introducing additional services during peak periods on certain sections of the route.

InterPanter electric units from the 660 and 661 series will continue to run on the R13 line, while multiple units with maximum speeds of 140–160 km/h will be used on the R8 and R12 lines.
