CARGOUNIT has signed a comprehensive service agreement with Siemens Mobility for the maintenance of its growing Vectron multi-system locomotive fleet.

The agreement covers preventive and corrective maintenance, mobile service, and Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) services at all levels, supported by Siemens’ Railigent X digital monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Expanding partnership between CARGOUNIT and Siemens Mobility
The collaboration marks a new chapter in a partnership that began in 2018, when CARGOUNIT acquired its first Vectron MS locomotive. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its fleet, culminating in a framework agreement signed in February 2024 for the purchase of up to 100 locomotives from the Vectron family.
In total, CARGOUNIT has ordered 106 Siemens electric locomotives to date — including 88 Vectrons and 18 Smartrons — with potential to exceed 150 units if all framework options are exercised.
The new service agreement initially covers the maintenance of nearly 70 Vectron locomotives, with additional units to be included as the fleet continues to grow under the framework contract.
Ensuring reliability through lifecycle maintenance
“It is worth relying on reliable and solid partners – providing support both in the delivery of modern rolling stock and, equally importantly, in its effective maintenance,” said Piotr Haremza, Service Director at Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o. “At Siemens Mobility, we secure the locomotive throughout its entire life cycle – from planned and unplanned inspections, through safety system maintenance, to P4-level major repairs, modifications, accident repairs, corrective work and mobile service. We set market standards in maintenance as an ECM certified since 2021, and through the use of advanced digital tools for spare parts management that guarantee fast response times. We look forward to many more years of cooperation with CARGOUNIT and are proud that our services support their development in Poland and Europe.”
“The scope of the agreement covers not only the maintenance of locomotives in Poland, but also within the European network of Siemens Mobility workshops abroad. This gives CARGOUNIT access to a proven service infrastructure, which translates into greater flexibility and operational reliability,” added Dawid Tomasik, Sales Development Team Manager at Siemens Mobility Poland.
Supporting growth across Central and Eastern Europe
CARGOUNIT emphasised that the extended cooperation reflects its strategy to provide high-quality, full-service locomotive leasing in Poland and across Europe.
“Over the past five years, the company has purchased and leased over 100 modern electric locomotives to customers on a full-service basis and currently has orders for over 80 additional locomotives in its portfolio,” said Łukasz Boroń, President of the Management Board of CARGOUNIT Sp. z o.o. “The development of our Vectron locomotive fleet goes hand in hand with the need to ensure the highest quality of maintenance, both in Poland and on European markets. That is why we have decided to extend our cooperation with Siemens Mobility to include comprehensive maintenance services that guarantee reliability and operational flexibility in the countries where our locomotives are approved. Joint activities with an experienced partner allow us to respond quickly to the growing expectations of rail carriers in terms of rolling stock availability. This is another step in building CARGOUNIT ‘s strong position as a leader in full-service rental of modern locomotives in Central and Eastern Europe.”
Siemens Mobility’s Polish maintenance team operates across several national sites, providing services for Taurus, Vectron, and BR189-F4 locomotives. The network supports more than a dozen Polish and European rail operators, ensuring high availability and performance across diverse fleets.
